Free Rice is a non-profit website where you can practice SSAT/SAT vocabulary words, and for every word you get right, rice is donated to the United Nations to help stop world hunger. It is pretty addictive and all of the advertising dollars are put toward rice that is distributed by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).

November 26, 2007Winter Farm Share

Backyard Beauties
November 14, 2007On the show Chronicle last night I learned about Backyard Beauties, a year round local tomato option for New Englanders. They are located in Maine and they ship fully vine-ripened tomatoes the same day of harvest. Instead of being picked green and ripening on a truck, their tomatoes stay on the vine until the last possible second. I’m so happy to hear of a local tomato option for the winter months.
Crock-pot Cookin’

I’ve been using the crock-pot from my childhood to make some meals on the weekends. After a failed Bean Soup I made a good batch of Baked Beans and most recently some Ultimate Chili. The crock-pot is covered with drawings of herbs and still works like a charm.
On a side note, the allrecipes.com ingredient search feature allows you to plug your desired ingredients in and it gives you a recipe to match your list.
